I have a storied past with Applebee’s and they are very often the brunt of jokes. However, when it comes to this blog, nine times out of ten I am going to defend the restaurant and the servers so today I am on Team Applebee’s
On a bright and sunny Christmas Day in Sikeston, Mo, Scott B. woke up and wanted nothing more than to celebrate the birth of Jess Christ his Savior by taking his family to Applebee’s and dining on Riblet Platter with fries and coleslaw. Unfortunately, there were others in Sikeston who woke up feeling the exact same way. So after Scott opened up his Christmas presents of new tire flaps and the latest model of the Fleshlight, he headed out to Applebee’s only to find it jam-packed with like-minded hungry customers. The hostess told him they were not seating at that moment because the kitchen was backed up, but to Scott’s dismay, he noticed that the restaurant was only half full.
What is one to do? Scott had two options: to either wait patiently and understand that the restaurant was possibly understaffed due to it being Christmas fucking day OR log on to Facebook and start complaining on the Applebee’s page. Guess which one Scott chose.
Oh, Scott. Dear, sweet, clueless, entitled, arrogant, can’t wait to use your new Fleshlight, Scott. Yes, the restaurant was busy and you had to wait. According to your post, so did 15 other people. And the reason you saw tables empty was because the restaurant realized that they could not accept more customers at that very moment and thought it best to be upfront and honest with you about the extended wait time than to seat you and give the false illusion that service was going to come quickly. We don’t know why they were short staffed, but they clearly were. Perhaps it was difficult to find enough servers to since, I dunno, it was fucking Christmas Day. Or maybe they did have it adequate staffed but a few people decide to call in sick since, I dunno, it was fucking Christmas Day.
“I’m sorry it’s a holiday, but nothing is open,” you say in your Facebook rant. Yes, nothing else is open because it’s fucking Christmas Day and some places make the humane decision to close that day so employees can spend that day with their families and the people they care about rather than dealing with whiney, sniveling crybabies like you.
“It’s not worth it,” you say. Funny, that is exactly what every single person who was working at Applebee’s that day said too.
It seems that you waited about an hour before deciding it wasn’t worth it which tells me that for 59 minutes, you did in fact think it was going to be worth it as the mantra “riblets and Fleshlight, riblets and Fleshlight…” ran through your head the whole time. But you finally left, probably vowing to never go back to the Applebee’s in Sikeston, MO again. It’s alright if you never go back. In fact if everyone who had to wait for service at Applebee’s on that day vowed to never go back on Christmas, maybe next year the restaurant could stay closed and let their employees stay home one day a year.
“Applebees in Sikeston, MO sucks!!!!!” you say. Well, I say the same thing about you.
Merry Christmas. Enjoy your Fleshlight.
p.s. Someone sent me a $50 gift card to Applebee’s so expect another Live Facebook video from there soon.

Hilarious post! God I hate people like that, stupid ass guy go home and cook your own Christmas dinner. I’ll never understand why out of ANY day of the year people decide to go out on Christmas Day. Get a life. It’s people like them we have to thank for US having to be open and working for their stupid lazy asses. Anyway, great post and awesome blog!

You are my hero!! New to your sight and THANK YOU!!

Am I the only one that read “riblets and fleshlight” in the tune of hoagies and grinders from lunch lady land by Adam sandler?

I’m not gonna rip into impatient people or anything but a kitchen can get slammed with orders. There’s times when dozens of guests arrive within minutes of one another. Holidays, major sporting events like the NBA Finals/Super Bowl/World Series. It’s shitty to wait when you’re hungry but I prefer starting a wait list, even though wait times run from mere minutes to upwards of 2 hours. The Pass/Expo gets cleared of all current orders, a fast restock & clean follows & orders are fired again. It ensures not only guests but also myself that the customer’s food isn’t half-assed, quickly cooked & rushed out. It takes longer but food quality is important to some of us chefs. Can’t speak for every kitchen crew but many of us take great pride in our work, carry extremely high standards in our food and want every person’s experience to be immaculate and memorable.

I run a small town bar & Grill. 18 or so tables with
About 15 bar seats. No hostess. They literally all come at once. They seat themselves. And it’s like they don’t notice the 25 people walking in at the same time. I always set the expectation. I have zero patience for the “one”. The supposed brave one that’s not afraid to tell you about the injustice they are currently suffering. I will throat punch you if I have to watch your eyes follow the food out of the kitchen and not come to your table… again. Find Jess or Jebus, whatever you call it and celebrate the holiday traditionally.
Geo
Yup. It is always how it works out. One minute oh so slow and the next minute BAM! everyone decides to come in. Funny how they never notice how many of them walked in at the same time.

I lost my shit on a lady once when that happened. 1 server (me), 1 bartender, 2 cooks, no busser, all tables sat. I had everyone’s orders in, drinks out, just waiting for food. A lady started complaining to me about how she was waiting for her food, and I just, ugh. I looked at her, and said ” Look around you! everybody here is waiting! as soon as it’s ready, you will get it!” and walked off. I didn’t care if she was pissed at me or not. Luckily, she became subdued, and ended up leaving a good tip. Hopefully she also thought twice the next time she was out and decided she was the only one there.

mr. grinch who didn’t like that he didn’t get taken care of right away at applebees doesn’t know it but in away he gave the hard working and not appreciated for giving up their holiday to work. a xmas gift of his own they didn’t have to deal with him and proably listen to him bitch some more .

Lol sounds the women who bitched me out because she showed up an hour before her reservations wanting to be sat. she checked in with someone else and then told me I needed to “get it together because you are an establishment” just because she had to wait an hour till her reservation time. Everyone thought she was crazy and she made the server lose another table because they didn’t want to be seated near her.

I worked at Applebees in Cape Girardeau. Sikeston was like our sister store. I worked Christmas Day two years in a row. Employees had to choose to work either Thanksgiving or Christmas. All my family is in St. Louis. I was just taking classes down there so I missed Christmas with my family completely. It was insane. I have a picture saved from the aftermath of one of those Christmas’s where all the staff members worked a 12 hour shift and you better believe our manager was working on the line trying to get food out as quickly as possible. We had like half the staff too because we weren’t sure how busy it would be and one person didn’t show up. I love you, Bitchy Waiter, and all that you stand for. Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear aprons.
Lacy
Our managers and owner was on the line, back and forth between kitchen and FOH making sure everyone was taken care of. Applebees was the only restaurant open in Cape….worst/best shift of my life lol definitely earned my money that day lol.
Julie
Thank you for this, I also worked Christmas day in a resturaunt and it was crazy. Fortunately, the majority were very good about the wait you always seem to have those that want their food in 10 min. I had a coupletter that was kind of huffy, and I jokingly said, well you could always had to McDonald’s, then went,oh that’s right they’re not open. They laughed and calmed down so all turned out ok.

I use to work at the Sikeston store and now at the Cape store. We also held the door on Christmas day because we were overwhelmed with orders. These people are lucky that we give up our holidays to make sure they can enjoy theirs with their family. Quit complaining and be thankful there were restraunts open.
Heather
The manager is probably cooking and questioning their life choices.
C
As a cracker barrel manager who spent Thanksgiving on the grill line i am 100% sure that is exactly what the manager was doing lol
Laura
He would have complained, either way. This was the professional thing to do.Hope all you AB servers had a wonderful holiday.

I always wished my restaurant would “hold the door” when the kitchen was behind and ticket times were running long. Unfortunately they don’t. I then have to explain to my table that the kitchen is behind and they will be having a longer wait than usual. Not only does it effect my tip it also puts server’s in the weeds. As a consumer I would rather wait to be seated than wait an unreasonably long time for my food.
